5 top tips to being a kind manager

  1. Tell your employees about the importance of wellbeing

It’s so important that your employees look after their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing - encourage them to do this! Taking a break at lunchtime, spending time outdoors and going for a walk during a break can all make a huge difference to how someone feels.

  2. Offer support or signpost to places where there is support

Give access to an employee assistance programme or signpost your employees to charities or other support groups. As a manager be informed about what support there is in your area.

  3. Say ‘thank you’

Praise and appreciation in the workplace is really important and supports your employees’ wellbeing. Say thank you to someone for a job well done and it could make their day.

  4. Talk to your staff

Be kind in your communication style, be human, communicate openly and honestly. Listen to your employees, ask questions, get their view.

  5. Lead by example

Show employees that you look after your own wellbeing - take time out for yourself. If you look after your own wellbeing employees will listen to you when you ask them to look after theirs.
